Fox Briar Farm is home to professional coaching, training, and equine services grounded in decades of hands-on experience across multiple disciplines. Led by Kerri-Ellen Chalmers, the farm reflects a commitment to correct fundamentals, thoughtful horsemanship, and long-term soundness for both horse and rider.
Kerri-Ellen is originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick and began riding at the age of five at Geary Hill Riding Stables. She started competing by age ten in the pony hunters and jumpers, progressing through the junior and amateur ranks in hunter, jumper, and equitation divisions under the guidance of Coach Valerie Phelan.
She earned her first Grand Prix win aboard her long-time partner Love Lighter and has also trained and competed successfully in dressage (4th level) and eventing (Pre-Training).
Kerri-Ellen has won numerous championships and reserve championships both provincially and nationally and has trained with many respected professionals in Canada and the United States, including Ian Millar, George Morris, Tom Hardy, Hugh Graham, Jen Hamilton, and Valerie Phelan.
From 1993–2003, Kerri-Ellen served as head trainer and manager of the family business, Meadow View Stables in Rusagonis, NB. After the sale of the business, she relocated to Ontario in 2004 to further pursue her equestrian career.
In 2006, she expanded her experience into the Thoroughbred industry, working at Woodbine Racetrack, galloping racehorses both at the track and training centers. She obtained her Assistant Trainer’s licence in 2012 and later her Trainer’s licence in 2013, saddling her first racehorse that same year. She recorded multiple placings, including wins, thirds, and fourths on the Ontario circuit with her racing business Aslan Kingdom Racing.
Building on her extensive equine background, Kerri-Ellen pursued formal education in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture, completing two years of intensive study at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCATCM).
She is now a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist, based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, offering acupuncture services alongside her equine work. This additional training brings a deeper understanding of biomechanics, nervous system regulation, pain management, and whole-body balance to her approach with both horses and riders. Although her acupuncture is only for humans, acupressure and meridian balancing for the equine athletes.
In 2016, Kerri-Ellen returned to the Maritimes due to family circumstances and re-focused on the hunter/jumper industry while completing her education in Advanced Applied Equine Podiatry in Ocala Florida. She was based in Charlottetown, PEI for two and a half years before returning to Ontario in 2018.
Kerri-Ellen is now based in Fredericton, NB, where she offers:
